I fought it for three days, but I became a Christian on November 23, 1999 while driving to my wife’s apartment in Tumwater. God decided it was time to bring an atheist to his knees! A few days before I was asleep (it was at midnight) and the only person in the house. A wall heater in my basement caught the wall on fire, and burned the basement. My dog (which 99.9% of the time lived in Tumwater with Lynnette) was laying with her nose by the crack under the door. Her choking woke me up before my room filled with smoke, and I threw her out the window before I went out… Seems that if there had been another 10 minutes, the whole house would have been engulfed in flames. As it is, they had to rebuild the house from the inside out. If it had happened one day earlier, there would have been two teenage boys in the living room, and me & Lynnette in my room, and the doors would have been open…! We would have all died from the smoke before help could have arrived. (The smoke detectors didn’t work – guess Derek needed the battery for something else — CHECK YOUR BATTERIES OFTEN!!! )
The hardest part about it was getting over my scientific education. I had to reconcile my belief in evolution with my new faith. With an open mind, it was easy to do. Evolution is only still around because they won’t acknowledge God, and have no other replacement! Send me an e-mail (use link to left) and ask me about it!
I used to manage Skateland in Union Gap (Yakima) Washington. I also used to drive a bus for Modesto City Schools in California. Now I drive a bus for Olympia School District and have started my own photography and web-design business, WallShots Photography & Web Design.
I now live in Olympia, one of the most beautiful cities I’ve ever lived in.
